Slumdog Millionaire – An Opportunity for All?

The much hyped movie of the year on the back drop of Asia’s largest slums and rags to riches story. A story that percolates into the lives of the richly poor, the poverty stricken, combating to make their ends meet in this big money minded world. No sight of the Yamunas’ and the Thames’ but just a stream of thick fecal matter, polythene et.al, no room for the golden rays to penetrate into the densely polluted black, opaque waters.
The inhabitants experiencing a frisson with hoodlum, political and spiritual wars, with every well struck cricket shot and the arrival of a world-famous movie star.
The metamorphosis of Jamil and Salim in roughly 2 hours takes the audience into the lives of the urchins, beggars racket, land sharks, body shops and What money can do & what lack of money can do
The movie won many accolades and the Oscars as well and had an equal share of criticism from the part of the globe that believed the city is shown in bad light.
For all the politicians who think so; well it’s time to wake up and think of re-development and rehabilitation. Ask your cops to keep a tab on the extortion, land sharks and prostitution rackets.
Bollywood – If you think this is injustice to Indian filmmakers; Indians have made better movies (I agree too); it’s time to strive and make the best. A.R. Rahman has for sure given the International audience better and mesmerizing music even before Slumdog; however a British team fetched him the Oscars. Nevertheless, the international audience now wants to listen to more of Indian music. Rahman’s success has opened the doors for Indian cinema and music. Rasul Pokutty has yet again brought to light the class of Indian technicians; now the technicians are even more wanted J
All those NGO’ and Human Rights Activists that genuinely thinks of the betterment of human lives; is the movie not an eye-opener for you to realize; there is a short fall in your work. Need funds? Catch hold of politicians and Bollywood stars.
Personally, I see this movie to be more of awakening call for all of us here in India. The entire system needs a clean up; probably only then a Dharavi may have a transparent stream to let the rays of the sun penetrate to its bed. For all us Indians the movie puts into perspective; that yes we have many a areas to improve on and lot more opportunity.
Jai Ho!
